When starting his retail nursery in the early 1970s, Ben Walker stayed true to his American roots, put his best foot forward, and embarked on a journey to give his family a figure to be proud of—an honorable, hardworking man committed to quality– and his community the healthy landscaping trees they were seeking.
Embodying the spirit of the American entrepreneur, Ben sought a way to improve his trees and developed Tree Sox, which uses a root-restricting fabric to help grow trees with a better root system. In 2000, he was among the first tree nurseries to distribute air-pruning technology in America. Even though it was more expensive, he always understood that better roots grow better trees, and better trees are great not only for the customers but also for our communities.
In keeping with that tradition, SuperTrees has continued to leverage air pruning technology and grow into a major tree supplier for Colorado, Utah, and the Pacific Northwest.

When we think of American-made, we think of attention to detail, caring for the craft, and not cutting corners on cost. The calloused hands with dirt under the fingernails, hanging those covered-in-mud boots up to dry at the end of a long day, were built from scratch, with nothing but an idea and some inspiration.
Patience and a plan, persistence and optimism, whatever the secret formula might be, it takes courage to start something of your own to provide for your family, something to be proud of—sink or swim.
